Blackened iron? Make it shine with these 2 ingredients: you already have them at home.

The good news is that there's no need to buy a specialized product. Two everyday allies are enough:  classic white toothpaste and baking soda , which can easily be found in the bathroom or cleaning cupboard.

How to do it?

  1. Start by unplugging the iron and letting it cool completely.
  2. Apply a thin layer of white toothpaste (without microbeads or dyes) to the sole, paying particular attention to the blackened areas.
  3. Then sprinkle on some baking soda to enhance the cleaning action.
  4. Leave it to act for between five and ten minutes.
  5. Wipe gently with a soft cloth or paper towel. The marks will gradually fade.
  6. Finish by wiping with a slightly damp cloth, then dry thoroughly: the sole regains its cleanliness and glide.

Natural alternatives for deep cleansing

If the sole is heavily soiled or you'd like to try different cleaning methods, other natural tips can be helpful. Cold, for example, makes it easier to remove hardened residue. Place the cold sole in a container of ice cubes for a few minutes, then gently remove the dirt with a plastic spatula.

Another effective combination: fine salt and white vinegar. Gently heat a mixture of equal parts, let it cool slightly, then apply it to the cold soleplate using a cloth or newspaper. By rubbing without applying pressure, the stains will fade and the surface will become smooth again, just like when cleaning a stainless steel sink.
