Brenda turned on a laptop and played a video that made everyone freeze. My father appeared on the screen, weak but with a sharp, razor-sharp gaze.
“If you’re watching this, it’s because you’ve been as greedy as I expected. Misty, you made the mistake of thinking that a sick man is a weak man, and you were sorely mistaken.”
I felt a surge of pride as my father’s voice continued to echo through the office.

By the time the video ended, Misty’s makeup was smeared with tears and her breathing was ragged with fear.
“The DA’s been notified,” Brenda declared calmly, “and there is also an investigation into your real identity, Monica.”
Two police officers appeared at the door and shouted for Monica Wilkes.
